And so…I’m going mouldy.

Also known as: I’m currently feeling very stuck in my situation which isn’t a good thing.
So, as you know (if you’ve read my first post), I am currently living with my parents & temping at the local council.
This is just while I get myself back on my feet & find a reasonably well-paying job back in Bristol.
But my goodness! I am going mouldy! I’m 35, living at home with my parents in the crappy town I thought I’d left behind, earning an absolute pittance as a temp.
Meh.
And yes, I know it’s only temporary, & actually I’ve reconnected with old friends which has been really good, & right now I don’t have to worry about money as my costs are low.
But this is NOT where I want to be in my life!
I guess the frustration is good as it will motivate me to keep looking for jobs & applying for them, even when the frequent rejection is disheartening.
But every now & then, I worry about my future, & how none of this is what I thought I’d be doing.
I guess it keeps life interesting…

Thoughts on death & dying.

Yes, a fairly morbid title.  But this is my personal blog where I can talk about whatever I want.

So, to death, & to dying.

For context: my step-grandma died yesterday. She hadn’t been particularly well for a few months, & her hips were giving her a lot of pain. This got to the point that they had home help in to wash her & cook for her, though this troubled my step-grandad. I don’t think he liked having strangers in their home.
But I digress, as that wasn’t really the point.
She ended up going into a home a few weeks ago, & had been receiving excellent care there. Then in the past week, she deteriorated a lot.

And that’s what I want to talk about.

Why do we prolong the suffering of those that are dying? I’m quite sure if she’d have stayed at home & been made comfortable, she would have died sooner but in less pain. Instead, she was refusing food or medication for her last couple of days, & crying out with pain.

How is that a dignified end?

I don’t think any of us want to suffer, we’d all rather go peacefully; no pain, no agony, just slipping away.

Much as I think homes for elderly people are needed & give a lot of them a quality of life they wouldn’t otherwise have, I do think we keep too many people alive for too long, prolonging their suffering for no reason.

I personally am in favour of euthanasia; a dignified end where the person gets to control that little bit of their destiny.(I say this well aware that it could, & probably would, be horribly abused by people – so of course there would have to be stringent checks & procedures put in place).

It’s not a nice topic, but it is something that we all have to face eventually.

Life is short. Make it count.
